Apple Drops the Price of iPods in Australia

MacRumors is reporting that Apple has lowered the prices of iPod in Australia, in some cases as much as 10%. The report goes on to note that the Australian dollar has gained strength and has is currently matching the U.S. dollar, giving them reason to lower the prices. That said, prices still remain higher in Australia than in the States, mainly do to the inclusion of tax in the price, and Apple’s to leave prices higher in international markets due to higher distribution. The report also notes that Apple doesn’t do this sort of thing very often, and traditionally waits for new product introductions before changing prices to match currency fluctuations

Verizon iPhone Tops Mobile Sales for February

comScore has released their results of a monthly survey, wherein they question U.S mobile phone customers, and have found that for February 2011, the top selling phone on the market was the new Verizon iPhone 4. This brought Apple to 7.5% of the market for the period between November and February. That’s up from 6.6% from the previous three-month period. Narrowing the scope of the survey to just smartphones and their OS, Android is on top with 33% of the market, with RIM falling to 28.9%, and Apple maintaining 25.2% market share. So, more of what we’ve seen before. Apple is holding it’s own, and because of the nature of the software, Android proliferating the market.

Apple Took in $9.6 Billion in Revenue from iPad, Competitors Brought in $34 Million

A betanews report is claiming that Apple brought in $9.566 billion in revenue for the iPad last year. As compared to everyone else in the tablet market, which brought in a measly $34 million. All together $9.6 billion was spent on tablets in 2010, and Apple brought in damn near all of it. Of course, more competitors are emerging, but it’s doubtful that they will sell 15 million units in a year as the first iPad did. Plus, with the new iPad 2, sales are still strong, and have little indication of letting up
