Verizon iPhone Sales Slow Android Sales for the First Time Since 2009
NPD, a market research company, in their first quarter “Mobile Phone Track” survey has found that surging Verizon iPhone sales in the U.S. has slowed the slowed Android sales for the first time since Q2 of 2009. Android still held some 50% of smartphone unit sales for Q1 2011, but that’s down 3% from the previous quarter. iOS grabbed 9%, and now sits at 28% of the market, and RIM has fallen another 5% and now sits at %14 market share. Widening the scope of the report to all mobile phone sales, Apple still has 14% of the market. Samsung holds 23%, and LG holds 18%. Also of interest, if the iPhone and Android are bundled together, they make up 54% of all mobile phone sales in the U.S

CDMA iPhone 4 Sales Lower Than Expected?
DigiTimes in their reporting that Pegatron facing losses in Q1 2011, claims that the company will be scaling back it’s CDMA iPhone 4 production from a reported 10 million units, to just 5 million. This scale back suggests that the CDMA, Verizon iPhone 4, isn’t selling as well as Apple had hoped. That said, Verizon did just announced that they had activated some 2.2 million iPhone 4 units since the device launched on their network in February. This leads me to wonder if the this is actually due to a lack of public interest, or if the demand is slagging because the public is becoming privy to Apple’s release cycle. I mean, I wouldn’t buy a phone if I knew it was going to be outdated in just a few months.

Apple Back in Fourth Place in World Wide PC Sales
Canalys , a research company, has reported on worldwide PC shipments for the first quarter of 2011. Apple is now back down to fourth place with 9.5% of the market, even when tablet computers like the iPad are factored in. Apple, in fourth quarter 2010, was ranked third worldwide. It is believed that Apple slipped back to fourth due to slower-than-expected iPad sales at the beginning of this year. Here’s a lengthy excerpt from the report: Apple continued with its strategy to dominate the pad market, with the iPad or iPad 2 available in 59 markets by the end of Q1. A combination of strong Q4 sales and the announcement of the iPad 2′s launch across major markets at the end of March contributed to Apple’s iPad shipments being down 31% sequentially. The full impact of the iPad 2 launch will not register until subsequent quarters, as Apple gets the product into the hands of consumers.

Foxconn Employees Charged with Leaking iPad 2 Case Designs
DigiTimes is points to a report on a Chinese website called sznews.com , which claims that three Foxconn (Apple’s largest manufacturing partner) have been charged with the leaking of the iPad 2 case designs. Here’s an excerpt: The local police on December 26, 2010, arrested three employees that were suspected of leaking the design, and officially charged the three employees for violating the company’s trade secrets on March 23, 2011, the reported added. This is unusual. Normally we don’t hear of any of the “leakers” getting caught releasing information. That said, these guys might have gotten caught simply because they released the case design so far in advance of the iPad 2′s introduction. In fact, some images, began to surface as far back as December of last year.

White iPhone 4 Ever So Slightly Thicker Than Black Model
Ryan Cash of Marketcircle fame has pointed out that the newly released white iPhone 4, is actually thicker than it’s black counterpart. He has photos to back up his claim. Tipb later reported that the white iPhone 4 is in fact .2mm thicker. That’s not much, but some tighter fitting cases might now work with your shiny new white iPhone 4. You’ve been warned. Now, if I had to guess, the design is thicker in an effort to drown out the light bleeding we had heard was causing the device’s delay. That is, the white paint coat allowed light to seep out of the seams and around the bezel, originating from the LCD backlighting.
