iOS 5 has over 200 new features, coming this fall

So, just as planned Apple presented iOS 5 – the next edition of its mobile operating system. In the beginning some statistics. IOS devices are already over 200 million, including phones, tablets and multimedia players, and Apple claims that they hold 44% of the market of mobile devices. For 14 months had been sold 25 million tablets, as there is scarce still and not everyone can get hold of them. Demo of iPad’s AirPlay Mirroring in iOS 5

One of the new iOS 5 features quickly touched on by Apple yesterday in its iOS 5 introduction was AirPlay Mirroring for the iPad 2, enabling users to wirelessly transmit the on-screen content of the device to an Apple TV for display on a television. The iPad 2 currently supports display mirroring via a Digital AV Adapter that provides a wired connection to a TV via HDMI. One of the criticisms of the wired mirroring has been the cumbersome nature of the dongle and cable hanging off of the end of the device, particularly when it comes to games and other apps that require movement of the device for input purposes. Consequently, AirPlay Mirroring should be a significant boon to those looking to display their iPad content on the larger screen, especially if lag is minimal. Nuance Technologies Still Coming to iOS 5 This Fall?

Leading up to WWDC there were rumors abound regarding Apple integrating Nuance voice recognition, and text-to-speech technologies in iOS 5. Yesterday’s announcement came and went without a mention of any such technology. A new report has come up claiming that a deal may still be in the works, and the deal wasn’t in place to make an announcement at yesterday’s keynote. The report goes on to suggests that the public even knowing about the rumored deal, may have thrown a wrench in the cogs, seeing as both Apple and Nuance are notorious for not backing down in regards to negotiations. They do point to several solid pieces of evidence as their proof that a negotiation is still ongoing. First, Nuance’s chief mobile platform architect was at yesterday’s keynote. Secondly, Roger Rosner of Apple made an on-stage appearance talking about something totally unrelated to technologies, even though he was rumored to be slated to speak about the Nuance deal.
