PC Free: No Computer Needed for iOS 5 Devices

Thanks to iCloud , with the introduction of iOS 5 this fall, iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad users no longer need to connect their devices to a Mac or PC in order to use them. Apple is calling the new feature PC Free , and it allows users to activate their devices wirelessly, right out of the box. Future iOS updates can be downloaded over-the-air and iCloud will enable backups of photos, music, contacts, calendars and more -- and allow users to simply type in their AppleID and password to restore a new device from an iCloud backup. Twitter Deeply Integrated Into iOS 5

Just as expected (due to numerous rumors / leaks on this), it was announced today that Twitter will be deeply integrated into iOS 5 when it is released this Fall. What this means is that it will be much easier to tweet from all over the place on a device running iOS 5. It will offer single sign-on via the Settings app and the ability to tweet directly from many of the built-in apps on iOS devices. Among the apps that you’ll be able to tweet directly from are Photos, Safari, Maps, Camera, and YouTube – and I imagine many 3rd party apps may follow suit if the Apple APIs allow them to. The Twitter integration also extends to the built-in Contacts app: Want to mention or @reply to a friend

Google Maps Imagery Picks Up Apple’s North Carolina Data Center

Fortune points out that Apple’s mythical data center located outside of Maiden, North Carolina can now been seen in Google Maps and Google Earth. The only reason this is particularly newsworthy, is that it shows that the data center, online, as recently as yesterday’s iCloud announcement. So, in short, it appears that the center is now online. Now, speculation has been flung around that Apple had been working with Google to keep images of the facility off of Google Maps, and away from the public eye.
