Apple announces 1 million Ping users in 48 hours

48 hours after Apple introduced Ping , their new social music network, they’ve announced 1 million users already signed on. “One-third of the people who have downloaded iTunes 10 have joined Ping,“ said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of Internet Services. “As many more people download iTunes 10 in the coming weeks, we expect the Ping community to continue growing.“ Ping lets you follow your favorite artists such as Lady Gaga, Coldplay, U2, Jack Johnson, Yo-Yo Ma and more, to see what they’re up to, check out photos and videos they’ve posted, see their tour dates and read comments about other artists and albums they’re listening to. In addition, you can post your thoughts and opinions, your favorite albums and songs, the music you’ve downloaded from iTunes® and the concerts you plan to attend. Several of us here at TiPb are among them: Rene Ritchie Chad Garrett Jeremy Sikora Leanna Lofte Allyson Kazmucha Georgia is just saying “no”. What about you?

Calvetica 2.0 for iPhone gets a major update

Now this is an app update I’ve really been looking forward to. Calvetica ($2.99 – review here ) has become my calendar app of choice ever since I laid, err, fingers, on it, and I’m amazed that the developers have come out with a major update so quickly (within a month). I actually haven’t been able to play with it just yet because the App Store is being a little fickle, but I am already awarding bonus points for the cheeky update description. I’ll make sure to post some updated impressions on x (where x is Saturday).

QuickCal Mobile 1.3 for iPhone: updated UI, better time support

This is but the first of two calendar app updates I’ll be posting in the next ten minutes. QuickCal Mobile ($0.99) is an excellent app for quickly entering event details without having to fiddle with menus and fields — you just type things out and an event will be created with all the details filled in. I complained a little about the appearance of the app in my review , and it just so happens that this newest version sports a newer, more friendly UI. The whole thing looks much more like an iPhone app, instead of a port of a Mac widget.
